Please join us at the Women’s Jail at the Constitutional Hill precinct to for the launch of the FREE AHED TAMIMI AND ALL CHILD PRISONERS CAMPAIGN and with an exhibition that celebrates Ahed Tamimi’s life and courage on her 17th birthday.
Date: 31 January 2018
Time: 6:30 for 7
Venue: Women’s Jail at the Constitutional Hill, 11 Kotze Street, Johannesburg
Whilst most teenage girls enjoy birthday parties and celebrations with family and friends, Ahed will spend her day in a military courtroom with hands and feet shackled facing charges that could lead to 14 years imprisonment; her night in a cold prison cell alone.
Ahed’s story is echoed by hundreds of other Palestinian child prisoners who are suffering in detention under the Israeli occupation. Watch projections, listen to her and the testimonies of child prisoners, excerpts from the film Radiance of Resistance that profiles her and the activism of her village of Nabi Saleh.
An action station invites your participation in creating birthday cards, writing messages of support on the graffiti wall, selfie pictures for the social media campaign and recording messages to her and other Palestinian political prisoners. Sign up, join the campaign demanding their release and learn more about the on-going Events and activities that are planned. You will be engaged by ex-prisoners of the Women’s Jail as they recount their own experiences of being imprisoned in South Africa’s apartheid jails.
Looking forward to connecting… let’s grow support and send a resounding call from South Africa FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE
