al-Quds International Foundation visit to SA

A delegation of five senior representatives and trustees of the al-Quds International Foundation are set to jet into South Africa on Friday, to participate in a host of public programs across the country. The delegation, who will be visiting from the foundations head offices in Beirut, Lebanon, will be in the country until the 12th September.

The group is set to be led by world renowned historian and al-Quds International founder, Dr. Saud Abu Mahfuz, and will also include the organizations director general, Yassin Hammoud. They will be hosted by the local branch of the organization, which is led by Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) president, Maulana Ighsaan Hendricks.

The delegation will start their tour upon arrival on Friday, attending a major public banquet at the Darul Islam Boys High School Hall, from 19:00pm until 21:00pm. The banquet is being hosted to raise funds towards VOC’s Gaza Water Project, with guests being treated to a presentation by the delegates.

According to Hendricks, the banquet would constitute a unique initiative, with a local couple opting to convert their wedding ceremony into the event. The banquet would almost entirely be paid for with the money the couple had initially intended to use for their wedding reception,

“This is where the delegation from the head office will be welcomed on Friday evening, under the banner of this very brilliant initiative,” he explained.

Hendricks urged the community to come out in their numbers and show support for the cause. Tickets will be going for R170 each, with the event set to cater for 800 people.

On Sunday, the delegation will take part in an ‘al-Quds rally’, specifically targeted at the youth. The event has been earmarked as a victory celebration, in recognition of the recent ceasefire in Gaza. It will once again take place at the Darul Islam Hall from 14:00pm onwards, and Hendricks made a plea for students to come out to the event.

“We hope to be releasing thousands of balloons, and the Habibia brigade will be leading the children inshallah. It will be a very exciting event, and we are specifically this time looking at the youth leadership,” he said.

On Sunday evening, there will be a public lecture at the Masjid ur-Rabi in Portlands, Mitchells Plain. At the event, Dr. Mahfuz is scheduled to conduct a detailed power point presentation highlighting the Zionist regime’s ‘divisive plan for Masjid al-Aqsa’.

Programs have also been scheduled through next week, including a press conference at the MJC headquarters on Monday. The following day, the delegation will visit the Palestine Museum, before meeting with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
